How does the visa-free regime with China affect the number of tourists?

More than 9 million tourists visited Kazakhstan by the end of 2023. This is almost 2 times more than the previous year.

According to statistics, guests from India, America, Germany, South Korea and the UK were actively traveling to the country. More than 16 thousand people visited our country from the United Arab Emirates, and almost 15 thousand from Italy.

The number of tourists from China has more than doubled. The latter, according to experts, was affected by the introduction of a visa-free regime. Since November 2023, 126 thousand citizens of the Middle Kingdom have visited Kazakhstan.

Tatyana Vernitskaya, executive director of the association “Center for the Development of Urban Tourism”:

- The geopolitical situation around Kazakhstan is beneficial to our tourism. Now in Kazakhstan there are many relocants from other countries, businesses have moved, this also cannot be removed from the account. European tourists have changed destinations, which is very positive for us. Still, pent-up demand is having an effect, and we have gained a few new markets: the same Arabs who did not come to us before in such a volume began to come. After the pandemic, Kazakhstan was the latest to remove all pandemic restrictions from nearby countries. This is pent-up demand - people wanted to come, but couldn’t. In 2021-2023 we visited a lot, and now it’s 2024, it’s wonderful - there are a lot of requests, they keep coming and coming.
