SOS buttons for tourists will appear in Kazakhstan. This was announced by the Minister of Tourism and Sports Ermek Marzhikpayev.

As the minister noted, SOS buttons are necessary to prevent accidents, which often occur in mountainous areas, forests and beyond.

“Last year we lost several tourists, they did not have time to give a signal. These buttons will work where there is no Internet,” Marzhikpayev said at a briefing after the government meeting.

According to the official, the buttons will be developed by a domestic manufacturer. They are planned to appear in visitor centers this year.

"We will implement them by the end of the year. According to preliminary estimates, about 5,000 buttons will be required. I can’t say how much in money, this is a business. We have three suppliers with their own developments. Where there is no Internet, everything will work via satellite. This is the whole point plus this SOS button,” the minister said.

Ermek Marzhikpayev also told us exactly how this button will work.

“It’s almost like a clock. When you press a button, a signal will be sent through the satellite that something has happened, there’s an emergency, you need to help. This device will be given to every tourist when they go out on the trail, that’s what we plan,” he added.
